Iwobi backs Arsenal to top Champions League group
Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi says he’s confident the Gunners can beat Paris Saint-Germain at home and finish top of their Champions League group.
Arsenal top Group A on goal difference ahead of PSG at the halfway stage after a 6-0 drubbing of Ludogorets on Wednesday at the Emirates. They will have a chance to build on that lead when they visit the Bulgarian side in the next round before hosting the French champions on November 23.
And after a 1-1 draw in Paris in their first match, Iwobi thinks Arsenal are in prime position to win the group.
“Yeah, we are confident. We did well at (PSG’s) place and we believe that on our home ground, with the fans on our side, we probably could get the win and probably finish first,” Iwobi told the Arsenal website. “We’re not trying to get ahead of ourselves, we’re taking each game as it comes.
“It’s basically our mental side that we were working on. We’ve still added that to our game and we believed if we’re mentally prepared in ourselves for this game that we would do well in November and it won’t be such a tough time, hopefully.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has said he criticises Mesut Ozil to help get the best out his teammate.
Ozil, 28, has been in impressive form this season and his hat-trick in Arsenal’s win over Ludogorets.
Mustafi said of his Germany colleague in the London Evening Standard, “Sometimes I have to criticise him as well because that’s how football is.
“Everyone makes mistakes and we have to be professional about it. Sometimes we criticise ourselves the most, it’s not the people out there that criticise us, it’s ourselves who criticise us the most.
“Because you want to play well, you want to win games, you don’t want to make mistakes. If you make one you are the first one who gets angry. But that’s football, you cannot be without errors. But he’s a fantastic player. I’m happy for him. He can make things happen in the final third. He sees runners.”
