Rio Paralympics: Team Nigeria Tops African Medal Table
Nigeria’s contingents at the Rio Paralympics particularly performed well at the event that ended Saturday night, finishing in 16th place with 12 medals to the good, making them the best African team at the tournament with eight gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
Prior to this feat, the team’s best outing at the London 2012 saw them win six gold, five silver and two bronze medals.
Nigeria proved to be the best team in Power-lifting event where the athletes picked Gold medals over rivals. Before the tournament, Nigerians had expressed their confidence in the Paralympians owing to their track record and they did not disappoint as the athletes continued to churn out impressive displays to garner medals in the competition.
